Is Busan Worth Visiting?

Is Busan worth visiting, and is a guided day the way to do it: what one day covers, what it leaves out, how many days to give the city, and when to skip the tour.

Updated November 2026

Busan is worth a visit if you want a temple on the sea, a long city beach and a hillside of painted houses, all in one place, with markets by the harbour to finish. A guided day is worth it when you have one day and do not want to work out the buses across a city whose two best-known sights, Haedong Yonggungsa and Gamcheon Culture Village, are 22 km apart in a straight line. With three days and no fear of buses, you may not need one: both are free to visit.

What the city is known for

Ask what to see and the same names come back on almost every day tour sold here: Haedong Yonggungsa, the temple on the rocks in Gijang; the coast at Cheongsapo and Haeundae Blueline Park; Gamcheon Culture Village on its hillside; and Jagalchi Market by the harbour. Visit Busan lists the temple as open every day from 4:30 AM to 7:20 PM and Gamcheon as open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM from November to February and 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM from March to October, and lists both as free (checked November 2026).

What one guided day covers, and what it leaves out

A guided day covers the far ends of the city in one go. LOVE KOREA's coach day gets through the temple, the Cheongsapo skywalk, Blueline Park, the UN Memorial Cemetery and Gamcheon in 9.5 hours, and leaves you by Jagalchi Market at 5:50 PM if you want to stay on for dinner. The itinerary has the stops of six tours in order.

What it leaves out is time. An hour at the temple, an hour or so in Gamcheon, and a lot of the day in the van between them. Of the 350 most recent reviews of LOVE KOREA’s day, dated 24 September to 6 November 2026, one three-star reviewer wrote that the places were far apart and the drives long, and another that the afternoon was too fast. A day tour does not include an evening on the beach, a long lunch in the markets or a night view; those are your own, or a night tour.

How many days to give it

One day sees the main sights with a guide. Two give you the beach and the markets at your own pace as well. A third is for a trip out of town, to Gyeongju for example.

Rain changes a coastal day. On a rainy day in October 2026 one reviewer of LOVE KOREA’s day found the Sky Capsule not running, and Lecirt's day warns that access to the Daritdol Observatory may be restricted in bad weather. All the GetYourGuide day tours here can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before, which leaves room to move the day if the forecast turns.

Who should skip the guided day

  • You have three days or more and like finding your own way. The temple and the village are free, and you can stay as long as you like at each.
  • You want the Sky Capsule and nothing else. On most day tours it is an optional extra bought on the spot, and a ticket is not guaranteed in busy periods. See what a Busan day tour includes.
  • You arrive by cruise ship. A day tour does not wait for a ship. The tours timed to your ship are on the Busan shore excursion.
  • You use a wheelchair. LOVE KOREA's, Lecirt's and 에덴투어's days are not suitable for wheelchair users; Here Korea Travel's small-group day is wheelchair accessible.

Who it suits

A first visit with one free day, a hotel near a subway exit, and a wish to see the temple and Gamcheon without planning the buses. That reader gets most from a guided day, and the comparison on the home page shows which one fits.
